Baking Pan Area Calculator
Compare rectangular, square, or round baking-pan surface area and estimate filled volume from batter depth.
How to use this calculator
- Replace the example values with your own measurements or planning assumptions.
- Keep every value in the unit printed beside its field.
- Select Calculate and review the result together with the formula and limitations below.
Formula and method
Rectangle area is length times width; square area is side squared; round area is π times radius squared. Filled volume equals area times batter depth.
Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, so an old answer cannot be mistaken for a current calculation.
Worked example
Pan shape = rectangle; Length or square side = 13 in; Rectangle width = 9 in; Round diameter = 9 in; Batter depth = 2 in. The calculator returns Pan area = 117 in²; Estimated filled volume = 234 in³; Equivalent round diameter = 12.205 in; Equivalent square side = 10.817 in.
The worked example uses the same default values displayed in the calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Can equal-area pans always use the same baking time?
No. Equal area helps scale batter, but pan depth, material, shape, and oven behavior can change baking time.
Why might the real result differ?
Equal area does not guarantee equal baking time. Pan material, wall shape, fill height, oven calibration, and recipe structure all affect baking.
How should I round the answer?
Keep extra precision while planning, then round up when purchasing whole containers, bags, pieces, or stock lengths. Follow the output labels and supplier packaging.
