Brine Percentage Calculator

Calculate salt mass for a wet brine using salt as a percentage of water weight and show total solution concentration.

g
Number from 0.001 to 100000000 g.
%
Number from 0 to 30 %.

Use the units shown. Blanks, words, comma-formatted numbers, fractions, non-finite values, and values outside the stated ranges are rejected.

How to use this calculator

  1. Replace the example values with your own measurements or planning assumptions.
  2. Keep every value in the unit printed beside its field.
  3. Select Calculate and review the result together with the formula and limitations below.

Formula and method

Salt mass equals water weight times the entered percentage divided by 100. Total-solution concentration divides salt by water plus salt.

Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, so an old answer cannot be mistaken for a current calculation.

Worked example

Water weight = 2000 g; Salt percentage of water = 3 %. The calculator returns Salt required = 60 g; Total brine weight = 2,060 g; Salt percentage of total solution = 2.9126%; Approximate water volume = 2 L.

The worked example uses the same default values displayed in the calculator.

Limitations and safety

This calculator only measures salt concentration. It does not determine safe curing, refrigeration, time, temperature, nitrite use, or pathogen control. Follow a tested food-safety recipe.

Frequently asked questions

Is three percent of water the same as three percent of total brine?

No. Three percent of water produces a slightly lower percentage when salt is divided by the total water-plus-salt solution.

Why might the real result differ?

This calculator only measures salt concentration. It does not determine safe curing, refrigeration, time, temperature, nitrite use, or pathogen control. Follow a tested food-safety recipe.

How should I round the answer?

Keep extra precision while planning, then round up when purchasing whole containers, bags, pieces, or stock lengths. Follow the output labels and supplier packaging.
