How to use this calculator

  1. Measure the project or enter costs from a current quote or product label.
  2. Adjust the quantities, coverage, package size, and allowances to match your situation.
  3. Select Calculate, then check the method, worked example, and limitations below.

Formula and method

Lifetime cost = purchase price + yearly upkeep × years. Cost per use = lifetime cost ÷ (uses per year × years).

Whole packages and pieces are rounded up. Results disappear when an input changes until the new values are calculated.

Worked example

Purchase price 240 $; Yearly upkeep 20 $; Years of use 4 years; Uses per year 60 uses. Results: Lifetime cost $320.00; Cost per use $1.33.

The example uses the values initially displayed in the fields.

Limitations

Resale value, finance charges, replacement parts, and actual usage are omitted unless included in the inputs.
