Debt-to-Income Ratio Calculator
FINANCIAL CALCULATOR
Calculate your monthly debt-to-income ratio (DTI) from gross income and recurring debt payments.
How it works
DTI compares recurring monthly debt obligations with gross monthly income before taxes and deductions. The target field is adjustable because underwriting rules and personal budgets vary.
Formula
DTI = total monthly debt payments ÷ gross monthly income × 100.
Example
Monthly debts of $1,800 divided by $7,000 of gross monthly income produce a DTI of about 25.71%.
Important limits
- This is a planning calculation, not lending, legal, or financial advice.
- Different lenders and loan programs count obligations differently.
- DTI does not measure utilities, food, insurance, maintenance, taxes, or all other living costs.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use gross or take-home income?
Lender-style DTI generally uses gross income, but use your full budget to judge personal affordability.
Does a target guarantee approval?
No. Credit, assets, loan type, documentation, and lender rules also matter.
