Grout Calculator
TILE CALCULATOR
Estimate grout volume and package count from tile dimensions, joint width and depth, tiled area, waste, and package yield.
Grout volume with waste0.171 ft³
Volume in gallons1.279 gal
Estimated packages1
Joint area share2.05%
How it works
A repeating tile-and-joint module estimates the share of surface occupied by joints. That share is multiplied by tiled area and joint depth, then adjusted for waste.
Formula
Joint share = [(L + J)(W + J) − LW] ÷ [(L + J)(W + J)]
Grout volume = area × joint share × depth
Important limits
- Actual coverage varies with tile thickness, bevels, lugs, joint shape, mixing, and application loss.
- Enter the manufacturer’s package yield, not package weight.
- Irregular tile layouts and mosaics may need a larger allowance.
Frequently asked questions
Why does wider joint size matter so much?
Wider joints occupy more surface area and require more grout volume.
Should joint depth equal tile thickness?
Use the actual filled depth after accounting for mortar, backing, and tile geometry.
