Round Baking Pan Conversion Calculator
COOKING CALCULATOR
Scale batter quantity between round pans using diameter and planned batter depth.
Use the units shown. All fields are required; absolute values cannot exceed one trillion. Assumes straight-sided round pans and cylindrical batter volume. Tapered pans, tube pans, irregular shapes, and rising batter require additional allowance. Baking time and temperature do not scale directly with this multiplier.
How to use this calculator
Replace the defaults with your measured ingredient quantities or chosen recipe assumptions. Select Calculate and read the units beside each result. Weigh ingredients when volume measurement or packing would introduce uncertainty.
Formula and explanation
Batter volume = π × diameter² × depth / 4; recipe multiplier = new volume ÷ original volume
Use the planned batter depth, not automatically the full pan height. With equal batter depths, the multiplier depends on the square of the diameter ratio.
Worked example
For Original pan diameter (inches) = 8, Original batter depth (inches) = 2, New pan diameter (inches) = 9, New batter depth (inches) = 2, the results are Recipe multiplier: 1.265625; Change in batter quantity (%): 26.5625; Original batter volume (cubic inches): 100.53096; New batter volume (cubic inches): 127.2345.
Important limitations
Assumes straight-sided round pans and cylindrical batter volume. Tapered pans, tube pans, irregular shapes, and rising batter require additional allowance. Baking time and temperature do not scale directly with this multiplier.
These tools calculate quantities from your assumptions; they do not establish food safety, nutrition, or recipe quality. Follow appropriate recipe and product instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Should I fill to the pan rim?
No. Follow the recipe and pan guidance for headroom; enter the intended batter depth.
Can I multiply the baking time too?
No. Pan size, depth, heat transfer, and recipe behavior change baking independently of ingredient scaling.
Can I mix measurement units?
Convert to the units beside each input first. Grams measure mass; milliliters and cups measure volume.
What happens with invalid inputs?
The previous result clears and a validation instruction appears, preventing an old result from being mistaken for a new calculation.
