CD Calculator
FINANCIAL CALCULATOR
Estimate a certificate of deposit’s maturity value, interest earned, and effective annual yield from a fixed rate and compounding schedule.
How it works
The calculator compounds the initial deposit at the entered nominal annual rate for the selected term. Effective APY shows the one-year result of that compounding schedule.
Formula
Maturity value A = P(1 + r/n)ⁿᵗ
APY = (1 + r/n)ⁿ − 1
Example
A $10,000 deposit earning 4.5% for three years with monthly compounding grows through 36 compounding periods.
Important limits
- This estimate assumes a fixed rate and no withdrawals, additions, fees, or early-withdrawal penalty.
- Banks may use actual day counts and rounding methods that slightly change interest.
- Interest may be taxable; this calculator does not estimate taxes or provide financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between rate and APY?
The stated rate is nominal; APY includes the effect of compounding over one year.
Does more frequent compounding increase the result?
At the same nominal rate, more frequent compounding generally produces a slightly higher maturity value.
Review notes
Results use the standard compound-interest formula for a fixed principal. Confirm actual terms with the issuing bank. Last reviewed September 30, 2026.
