How to use this calculator

Replace the example values with figures for the same product, period, or project. Select Calculate and compare the result with your quote, budget, or accounting records. Retain precision until you record the final amount.

Formula and explanation

Cost per square foot = included cost ÷ area; cost per square meter = cost per square foot × 10.76391041671

Normalizing a quote by area makes projects easier to compare when their scopes and measurement conventions match.

Worked example

Using Total included cost ($) = 2400, Covered area (square feet) = 400, the results are Cost per square foot ($/ft²): 6; Equivalent cost per square meter ($/m²): 64.583463.

Important limitations

The result only includes costs you enter. Compare material-only quotes with material-only quotes, or full installed costs with equivalent full scopes. Area does not predict structural adequacy.
