Macro Calculator
HEALTH CALCULATOR
Convert a daily calorie goal and macro percentages into grams of protein, carbohydrate, and fat.
How it works
Protein and carbohydrate provide about 4 calories per gram, while fat provides about 9 calories per gram.
Formula
Macro grams = calories × macro percentage ÷ calories per gram
Important limits
- Food labels and real foods include rounding, fiber, sugar alcohols, and other differences.
- Percentage targets are preferences, not universal medical recommendations.
- Consult a qualified professional for medical nutrition needs, pregnancy, eating disorders, kidney disease, diabetes, or athletic fueling.
Frequently asked questions
Why must percentages total 100%?
The calculator assigns the full calorie target across the three macronutrients.
Does alcohol count?
No. Alcohol calories are not modeled, so targets that include alcohol require separate adjustment.
How to use a macro estimate
Protein and carbohydrate each provide about 4 calories per gram, while fat provides about 9 calories per gram. A macro target is therefore a way to distribute an estimated daily calorie goal, not a guarantee of weight change or athletic performance. Small differences can also arise from fiber, sugar alcohols, alcohol, and food-label rounding.
Treat the result as a starting point and monitor energy, hunger, training, and body-weight trends over several weeks. Consistency matters more than hitting every gram exactly on one day. People who are pregnant, under 18, managing diabetes, recovering from an eating disorder, or dealing with kidney, liver, or metabolic conditions should use personalized guidance from a qualified clinician or registered dietitian.
