Parallelogram Area Calculator

MATH & GEOMETRY CALCULATOR

Calculate parallelogram area and perimeter from base, height, and adjacent side.

Use the same length unit throughout. All fields are required. Opposite sides must be parallel. Height cannot exceed the adjacent side; the inputs do not specify the slant direction.

Area (square units)40
Perimeter (units)30
Height-to-side ratio0.8

How to use this calculator

Enter your dimensions and select Calculate. Length results use your input unit, areas use its square, and volumes use its cube. Retain measurement precision until the final answer.

Formula and explanation

Area = base × perpendicular height; perimeter = 2(base + adjacent side)

Perpendicular height determines area. The sloping adjacent side determines perimeter.

Worked example

For Base length (units) = 10, Perpendicular height (units) = 4, Adjacent side length (units) = 5, results are Area (square units): 40; Perimeter (units): 30; Height-to-side ratio: 0.8.

Important limitations

Opposite sides must be parallel. Height cannot exceed the adjacent side; the inputs do not specify the slant direction.

Ideal geometry does not account for manufacturing tolerances or measurement uncertainty. This is a calculation aid, not a structural design or building-code approval. Absolute inputs must not exceed one trillion.

Frequently asked questions

Why enter side length?

It is needed for perimeter, although base and height alone determine area.

Can I calculate a rectangle?

Yes; its height equals the adjacent side.

Can I mix inches and centimeters?

Convert all lengths to one unit first. Mixed units produce incorrect results.

Why did my result disappear?

Blank, invalid, or out-of-range inputs clear the previous result and display an instruction.
