How to use this calculator

  1. Replace the example values with your own measurements or planning assumptions.
  2. Keep every value in the unit printed beside its field.
  3. Select Calculate and review the result together with the formula and limitations below.

Formula and method

Apply the waste and lap allowance to installed length, multiply by standard nominal pounds per foot for the selected size, and divide by stock length.

Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, so an old answer cannot be mistaken for a current calculation.

Worked example

U.S. rebar size = #4; Installed length = 500 ft; Waste and lap allowance = 5 %; Stock bar length = 20 ft; Price per pound = 1.1 $. The calculator returns Purchase length = 525 ft; Estimated weight = 350.7 lb; Whole stock bars = 27; Estimated material cost = $385.77.

The worked example uses the same default values displayed in the calculator.

Limitations and safety

This does not create a reinforcement schedule or determine bar size, spacing, laps, bends, cover, supports, or code compliance. Use approved structural documents.

Frequently asked questions

Does the weight include laps and cutting waste?

Yes, only to the extent represented by the percentage you enter. A detailed bar schedule may require a different allowance.

Why might the real result differ?

This does not create a reinforcement schedule or determine bar size, spacing, laps, bends, cover, supports, or code compliance. Use approved structural documents.

How should I round the answer?

Keep extra precision while planning, then round up when purchasing whole containers, bags, pieces, or stock lengths. Follow the output labels and supplier packaging.
