Tip Calculator
FINANCIAL CALCULATOR
Tip Calculator
Calculate a tip, total bill, and equal per-person share from a bill amount and tip percentage.
The tip is calculated from the bill amount, not from the additional tax/fees field.
How it works
Enter the amount used as the tipping base, select a tip percentage, and add the number of people splitting the final total.
Formula
Tip = bill × tip percentage. Total = bill + tip + additional fees. Per person = total ÷ people.
Worked example
A 20% tip on an $80 bill is $16. The total is $96, or $24 each for four people.
Important limits
- Tipping customs and service-charge rules vary by location and venue.
- A mandatory service charge may not be distributed like a voluntary tip.
- Check whether the entered bill already includes tax, gratuity, or fees.
Frequently asked questions
Should I tip on tax?
Customs vary. This calculator applies the tip only to the bill field, letting you keep tax or other fees separate.
How do I split unevenly?
This tool divides the total equally. For unequal shares, calculate each person’s bill portion separately.
