How to use this calculator

  1. Replace the example values with your own measurements, schedule, prices, or media settings.
  2. Keep each value in the unit printed beside its field.
  3. Select Calculate and review every result together with the assumptions below.

Formula and method

Adjusted daily seed = birds × grams per bird × (1 + waste rate). Days per bag = bag grams ÷ adjusted daily seed. Monthly budgeting uses 30.436875 days.

Calculations run in your browser. Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, preventing an old answer from being mistaken for the current calculation.

Worked example

Number of birds = 2; Seed per bird per day = 25 g; Waste allowance = 15 %; Bag size = 2 kg; Bag price = 14 $. The calculator returns Seed used per day = 57.5 g; Days per bag = 34.7826087 days; Average bags per month = 0.8750601562; Average monthly cost = $12.25; Average annual cost = $147.01.

The worked example uses the same default values shown in the interface, so the displayed result and explanation can be checked directly.

Limitations

The calculator does not recommend a diet or portion. Nutritional needs vary by species and individual; use the amount recommended by an avian veterinarian or other qualified source.

Use the result as a planning estimate. Confirm prices, policies, equipment ratings, units and professional requirements that apply to your situation.

Frequently asked questions

Why include a waste allowance?

Hulls, scattering and uneaten material can make package consumption exceed the amount actually eaten. Enter your observed allowance, or zero if already included.

Why does the calculator reject my entry?

Each field shows its supported range. Whole-number fields reject decimals, and all fields reject blanks, words, comma-formatted numbers, fractions and non-finite values.

How should I round the result?

Keep extra digits while planning, then round to the precision supported by your inputs, package sizes, billing rules or equipment settings.
