How to use this calculator

  1. Replace every example value with your own measurements, label values or planning assumptions.
  2. Keep each value in the unit printed beside its field.
  3. Select Calculate, then compare the result with the formula and limitations below.

Formula and method

Bag ounces = bag pounds × 16. Daily ounces = cups per day × ounces per cup. Duration = bag ounces ÷ daily ounces. Monthly pounds use 365 ÷ 12 days.

Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, so an older answer cannot be mistaken for the current calculation.

Worked example

Bag weight = 30 lb; Daily feeding amount = 3 cups/day; Food weight per cup = 4 oz/cup. The calculator returns Estimated bag duration = 40 days; Food used per month = 22.81 lb; Daily food weight = 12 oz.

The worked example uses the same default values displayed in the calculator.

Limitations and safety

This does not recommend a feeding amount. Use the current product label and your veterinarian’s advice; cup weight varies by recipe and kibble shape. Store and handle pet food according to label directions.
