Pool Volume Calculator

OUTDOOR CALCULATOR

Estimate pool water volume for a rectangular, oval, or round pool using average depth.

Average depth5.5 ft
Pool volume2,475 ft³
US gallons18,514 gal
Liters70,084 L
Estimated water cost$111.08

How it works

The shallow and deep depths are averaged, then multiplied by the plan area of the selected shape. Cubic feet convert to US gallons and liters.

Formula

Volume = plan area × average depth
1 ft³ ≈ 7.48052 US gallons

Important limits

  • Average depth is an approximation for sloped bottoms.
  • Steps, benches, coves, freeboard, and irregular shapes can reduce actual water volume.
  • Use measured fill volume or equipment specifications for chemical dosing and safety-critical decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Why average shallow and deep depth?

For a uniformly sloped bottom, their arithmetic average gives a useful depth estimate.

Does diameter mean radius?

No. For a round pool, enter the full distance across the pool.

Review notes

Shape areas and gallon/liter conversions were checked; irregular geometry remains approximate. Last reviewed September 30, 2026.
