Driveway Sealer Calculator
Estimate sealer gallons and whole pails for a rectangular driveway using coats, labeled coverage and a waste allowance.
How to use this calculator
- Replace every example value with your own measurements, label values or planning assumptions.
- Keep each value in the unit printed beside its field.
- Select Calculate, then compare the result with the formula and limitations below.
Formula and method
Area = length × width. Gallons = area × coats ÷ labeled coverage × (1 + waste%). Five-gallon pails are rounded up.
Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, so an older answer cannot be mistaken for the current calculation.
Worked example
Driveway length = 50 ft; Driveway width = 20 ft; Number of coats = 2 coats; Coverage per gallon = 80 sq ft/gal; Waste allowance = 10 %. The calculator returns Driveway area = 1000 sq ft; Sealer needed = 27.5 gal; 5-gallon pails = 6 pails.
The worked example uses the same default values displayed in the calculator.

Frequently asked questions
What should I enter first?
Start with measurements or rates from the project, product label, service quote or equipment specification. Replace every example value before relying on the estimate.
Why can the real result differ?
Coverage varies with pavement age, porosity, cracks, application method and product formulation. Follow the product label for preparation, weather, coat thickness and cure time.
Does the calculator round purchases up?
Only outputs labeled as whole packages, vents, heaters, pails or similar counts are rounded up. Keep extra precision for planning and follow supplier packaging.
