Pet Insurance Cost Calculator
Compare annual premiums with an illustrative deductible, reimbursement rate, eligible veterinary bills, and policy limit.
How to use this calculator
- Replace the example values with your own measurements, schedule, prices, or media settings.
- Keep each value in the unit printed beside its field.
- Select Calculate and review every result together with the assumptions below.
Formula and method
Illustrative reimbursement = min(annual limit, max(0, eligible bills − deductible) × reimbursement rate). Owner cost adds annual premiums and bills not reimbursed.
Calculations run in your browser. Results are hidden whenever an input changes or validation fails, preventing an old answer from being mistaken for the current calculation.
Worked example
Monthly premium = 55 $; Eligible annual vet bills = 3000 $; Annual deductible = 500 $; Reimbursement rate = 80 %; Annual reimbursement limit = 10000 $. The calculator returns Annual premiums = $660.00; Estimated insurer reimbursement = $2000.00; Estimated vet cost after reimbursement = $1000.00; Estimated total owner cost = $1660.00.
The worked example uses the same default values shown in the interface, so the displayed result and explanation can be checked directly.
Limitations
This simplified model cannot determine covered claims. Waiting periods, exclusions, preexisting conditions, benefit schedules, per-condition deductibles, coinsurance definitions and policy language control actual payment.
Use the result as a planning estimate. Confirm prices, policies, equipment ratings, units and professional requirements that apply to your situation.
Frequently asked questions
Does the deductible always apply this way?
No. Policies may use annual, per-condition or other deductible structures. Use this only when the entered structure matches the policy you are reviewing.
Why does the calculator reject my entry?
Each field shows its supported range. Whole-number fields reject decimals, and all fields reject blanks, words, comma-formatted numbers, fractions and non-finite values.
How should I round the result?
Keep extra digits while planning, then round to the precision supported by your inputs, package sizes, billing rules or equipment settings.
