DIY Cost Tools
Time Card Calculator
TIME & DATE CALCULATOR
Calculate paid hours per day, weekly hours, overtime hours, and estimated gross pay.
How it works
The tool subtracts one unpaid break from the shift, supports an overnight clock-out, multiplies paid time by workdays, and applies overtime above 40 hours.
Formula
Paid daily hours = (clock-out − clock-in − break) ÷ 60. Weekly gross = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier.
Worked example
A shift from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid break equals eight paid hours. Five identical days equal 40 hours and $1,000 at $25 per hour.
Important limits
- Actual timekeeping can use rounding, multiple shifts, paid breaks, different workweeks, and state rules.
- Overtime eligibility and the legal regular rate can differ from this simplified input.
- The calculator does not store or submit time records.
Frequently asked questions
Does it handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, it treats clock-out as the following day.
Does overtime start after eight hours in a day?
No. This simplified tool applies overtime only after 40 weekly hours; some jurisdictions use additional rules.
